Japan is top the Asian market and fourth-largest global market for U.S. exports of consumer-oriented food products. FOODEX Japan is the largest annual food and beverage trade show in Asia, offering exhibitors access not only to Japan’s $770 billion food market but to many other lucrative Asian markets as well. In 2018, the U.S. Pavilion at this USDA-endorsed show welcomed 56 exhibitors reporting $18.5 million in 12-month projected sales of U.S. agricultural products. U.S. exhibitors made over 712 serious business contacts and introduced 283 new products in the market. Popular U.S. products at the show included almond, organic chocolate, nuts, dried fruit, hi Oleic soya oil, craft gin, cookies, turmeric tea, black soybeans, fresh papaya, popcorn, jerky, whole dried figs, organic dates, peanut butter, veggie chips, gummy bears, smoked turkey leg, flatbread, candy, blueberry juice concentrate, frozen dessert, tomato paste, steak, pork cheese kalbi, acai juice, bourbon mixer, breaded pork loin, caviar, bacon products, chocolate bars, crackers, fresh blueberries, chips, water products, beef, tomatoes, apple chips, smoothie mix, olive oil, seafood. The 56 U.S. exhibitors included 21 small-to-medium size and 14 new-to-market companies.
