Chile: Stone Fruit Annual

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

Chile’s MY2017/18 cherry production is expected to increase by nearly 7 percent up to 123,870 metric tons (MT). Cherry planted area has grown steadily at a 9 percent average annual rate in the last 20 years and is forecast to reach 29,500 hectares (ha) in MY2017/18. Due to greater exportable supplies, exports are expected to rise by 8 percent to 103,680 MT for the same marketing year. In MY2017/18, fresh peach and nectarine production is forecast to decrease by 2 percent to 146,000 MT, due to a decline in combined planting area. As a result, 2017/18 exports are expected to fall by 2 percent to 86,000 MT due to lower production.
