Data and Analysis

The Caribbean Basin region has a robust and competitive hotel/restaurant/institutional (HRI) food service sector. Tourism is a key factor generating demand for U.S. products in the food service sector. Sales reached $2.28 billion in 2024, an increase of 4 percent from the previous year.
Six years after the conclusion of a regional biosafety regulatory project, participating Caribbean countries remain stuck halfway up the mountain and unable (at least for now) to reach the summit — a point at which the use of modern biotechnology is scientifically and cohesively regulated throughout the region.
