Peru continues its extended biotechnology moratorium on cultivating genetically engineered (GE) crops based on ongoing environmental concerns until December 2035.
On August 22, 2025, Peru announced a 90-day public consultations period on a regulation for hemp to implement Law 32195. Peru has not notified this standard to the WTO to date. Aquaculture production in 2023 declined steeply to 105,091 metric tons (MT), a 25.43% decrease from 2022. The Peruvian aquaculture industry exported 4.5 million MT in 2023, a decrease of 12.56% from 2022 levels.
