The Hong Kong government (HKG) has notified proposed amendments to its Food Adulteration (Metallic Contamination) in Food Regulations to the World Trade Organization (WTO) (G/SPS/N/HKG/50) on December 16, 2024.
In 2023, Hong Kong was the world’s nineth largest spirits importer. The city’s global imports surpassed pre-pandemic levels by 30 percent and reached a new record valued of $779 million. Last year, domestic consumption grew significantly as both on-trade and off-trade sales registered remarkable growth.
In the first ten months of 2024, U.S. exports of consumer-oriented food and beverages to Hong Kong reached nearly $1 billion, on par with the same period in 2023.
