Canada continues to be the largest export market for U.S. consumer-oriented products. In 2022, U.S. consumer-oriented exports to Canada reached $19.9 billion, representing 24 percent of the total value of U.S. consumer-oriented exports worldwide.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has approved the U.S. application for legislative recognition which demonstrates that U.S. feedstock is in compliance with the land use and biodiversity (LUB) criteria under the Clean Fuel Regulation (CFR).

Canadian apple production is forecast to decline three percent in MY 2023/24 on adverse weather events across the main growing provinces. Pear production is forecast to grow slightly on large volume fruit in Ontario and a good crop in British Columbia.

Canada: Grain and Feed Update

FAS Ottawa forecasts total wheat production to be 31.1 million metric tons (MT), down ten percent year-over-year (y/y) on lower yields due to widespread drought across the prairie provinces.
On July 26, 2022 the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) opened a consultation on proposed guidance for registration requirements of gut modifier products under the animal feeds regulations. The consultation will remain open until September 19, 2022.
On July 20, 2022, Canada announced final regulations to amend the Food and Drug Regulations (FDR) to establish detailed conditions for the use of supplemental ingredients in food. The amendments will also establish additional requirements on the labelling of supplemented foods beyond the general requirements in the FDR for prepackaged foods.

Canada: Grain and Feed Update

Significant rainfall has alleviated severe drought conditions in large regions of Alberta and Saskatchewan but more is required to support wheat growth. Large regions of Manitoba that were waterlogged in June, now have adequate conditions after a heat wave dried up excess water.
On July 20, 2022, Canada announced final regulations to amend the Food and Drug Regulations (FDR) to require front-of-package (FOP) labeling for most prepackaged products containing certain nutrients (i.e., saturated far, sugars, and/or sodium) at or above specified thresholds.
