China notified the National Food Safety Standard: Cooked Meat Products (draft for comments) to the WTO Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures as G/SPS/N/CHN/1313 on July 11, 2024.

On July 11, 2024, China notified draft Measures for Supervision and Administration of Quarantine for Entry and Exit Medicinal Materials to the World Trade Organization (WTO) under G/SPS/N/CHN/1314.

On August 21, 2024, the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) announced that it had initiated an anti-subsidy (i.e., countervailing duty or CVD) investigation on imports of certain dairy products originating from the European Union.

Wood consumption is expected to recover slightly in 2024 compared to 2023. In 2023, the value of wood product imports declined 19 percent from 2022, the lowest import value in the past ten years.

On August 1, India’s Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an above normal rains forecast for the second half (August to September) of the southwest monsoon. Cumulative rainfall as of August 11 was seven percent above the long period average (LPA), with central and southern India receiving 16 percent and 23 percent above normal rainfall respectively.

India is at a crossroads as it seeks to achieve its goals of becoming a top three economy, a significant supplier of value-added products, and a global political leader in the next 20 years. The road India is pursuing will require significant changes and improvements in its legal system, infrastructure, and domestic support policies, especially for agriculture.
