Russia: Draft Amendments to Veterinary Requirements Notified to WTO

On December 17, 2019, Russia notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of draft amendments to the Unified EAEU Veterinary Requirements and respective Unified EAEU forms of veterinary certificates via G/SPS/N/RUS/176. The notified measure should bring some EAEU requirements for bovine semen, sheep and goats, and pork in line with the Codex recommendations. This report contains an unofficial translation of the notified document. The public comment period for the draft will close on February 15, 2020. Interested U.S. parties are encouraged to share their comments and/or concerns with USDA’s enquiry point (us.spsenquirypoint@fas.usda.gov). For potential inclusion in the U.S. official position, please send your comments by February 3, 2020.

Philippines: Corn TRQ Administration

The Philippines maintains a Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) for corn (H.S. 1005). Following the reduction of tariffs in 2022 and their extension in 2023, significant interest in how to access the in-quota tariff ensued, and in turn, so followed widespread concern among local stakeholders for the process being anti-competitive, outdated, and potentially inconsistent with the Philippines' commitments with trading partners.
On February 15, 2023, Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/334 amending Annexes II and V to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 lowering the maximum residue levels (MRLs) for clothianidin and thiamethoxam in or on certain products was published in the Official Journal (OJ).
