Kazakhstan: Grain and Feed Update

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

FAS/Astana estimates wheat production in Kazakhstan in MY 2017/2018 at 13.5 MMT, down nearly 10 percent from Post’s estimate of 14.99 MMT for 2016/17, due largely to a decline in planted area. Barley production is forecast down about 17 percent at 2.7 MMT in 2017/18. While quantity is down, favorable weather conditions, seed improvements and timely fertilizer treatment helped to make significant improvements this season in terms of wheat quality in Kazakhstan, which is a marked improvement compared to the past four to five years.
