Japan: Public Comment Period Open for EU-Proposed Geographical Indications

On July 11, 2017, Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) published a list of 71 proposed geographical indications (GIs) for which the European Union is seeking GI protection in Japan. On July 12, 2017, Japan’s National Tax Agency (NTA) followed MAFF’s release with a list of another 139 EU-proposed GIs for wine, spirits and other alcoholic beverages. Comments on MAFF’s 71 agricultural product proposals must be submitted in Japanese by October 9, 2017 (after a 90 day review period). Comments on the NTA’s 139 wine, spirits and other alcoholic beverage proposals must be submitted in Japanese by October 12, 2017. A full list of the proposed GIs is attached.

Thailand: Grain and Feed Monthly

Thai rice export prices are trending up, with the premium grades, such as Hom Mali rice, showing the most significant increase.
FAS Accra (Post) successfully facilitated the transit of a small herd of high-value, reproductive Texas-bred V8 Brahman cattle. The cattle round-up started out in Texas making its way via Chicago to Doha with landfall in Coastal West Africa's Accra (Ghana). Post's expeditious intervention expedited Ghanaian (ECOWAS) import permits and sanitary clearances, as well as transit authorizations.
