This report updates the 2016 Agricultural Biotechnology Annual Report. The U.S. exported over $1.5 billion in GE products to Indonesia in 2016. While Indonesia has a detailed regulatory framework to assess risk of genetically engineered (GE) plant products, changes in the variety release process and other regulatory barriers continue to hinder approval of GE crops for domestic cultivation.
