Pork production in India is estimated at 464 thousand metric tons in FY 2014-15 (April-March), which contributes approximately eight percent of the country’s animal protein sources. From FY 2009-10 to 2014-15, pork production increased at a slow pace with annual growth rate of 1.4 percent. India’s pork import was 527 metric tons in 2015, which increased at an annual growth rate of 11 percent from 2010 to 2015. The demand for imported pork is mainly in hotel, restaurant and institutional and high-end retail sector.
