EU-28: 2018-19 HQB Q2 Fill Maintains Record Pace as U.S. and EU Renegotiate

The High Quality Beef (HQB) quota maintains a record import pace for the second quarter with over 99 percent of the quota volume, 11,250 metric tons (MT), filled as of October 23, 2018. On October 19, 2018, the European Council voted and approved the mandate for the European Commission (EC) to renegotiate the HQB quota agreement with the United States. The renegotiation aims to enhance HQB quota access for non-hormone, high quality U.S. beef.

On May 16, 2025, Brazil, the world’s largest chicken meat exporter, reported its first case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in a commercial plant.
