Colombia: Coffee Semi-annual

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)

In marketing year (MY) 2018/19, Colombian coffee production was slightly lower than expected at 13.9 million bags (1 bag = 60 kilograms unless otherwise noted) green bean equivalent (GBE). Unfavorable weather conditions due to extended drought affected production levels. In MY 2019/20, Colombian coffee production is forecast to reach 14.3 million bags as the flowering period in the main coffee regions has benefited from good weather and this indicates a good harvest. Paralleling production recovery, exports are expected to increase to 13.7 million bags GBE in MY 2019/20. Increasing exports, growing domestic demand and stagnant production boosted coffee imports in MY 2018/19 to 1.2 million GBE. Imports are expected to increase further to 1.3 million GBE in MY 2019/20, even as production rebonds due to continued increases in domestic consumption and exports.
