Access to the benefits of modern agricultural biotechnology in the Caribbean Basin remains stifled by the unfinished work of implementing a science-based, risk-management approach to regulate its use. A handful of Caribbean countries are now planning to seek funding to complete this work, which could possibly open the door to future research, field trials and eventually commercial production of GE crops in the region.
