Sint Maarten remains an open market for U.S. food and agricultural products with duty-free entry and limited import regulatory requirements. With its newly acquired status as an autonomous country Sint Maarten is beginning to develop its own food safety, and plant and animal health regulatory systems. Development and implementation of these regulatory systems is expected to take some time given the resource constraints of this young country.

The Ministry of Trade temporarily banned lemon exports as of April 8, 2025, due to a predicted supply shortage following cold weather and frost damage in the southeast.
The European Parliament took an initial step to open market access for beet and oilseed planting seeds from Ukraine. The EU approved cereal planting seeds from Ukraine in 2020.
