EU imports of fuel wood totaled $1.8 billion in 2023. The two main categories of fuel wood imported by the EU are wood pellets and wood chips. This report focuses on the bioenergy market for wood chips in Northwestern Europe, which is increasingly seeking to import from outside the EU.

Ukraine’s total imports of fish and seafood rebounded by 28 percent in 2023 after a major war-impacted drop in 2022. Grain production in Ukraine has remained unprofitable since the Russia’s invasion, and this is expected to translate into decreased grain area for MY2024/25. With CY2024 yields forecast below the previous near-record-breaking CY2023, the total grain MY2024/25 production volume is forecast to be lower than for the previous marketing year.

For marketing year (MY) 2024/25, Ukrainian farmers are forecast to increase area under all the major oilseeds except for sunflowers. However, regarding production volumes, this increase might be somewhat dampened by lower yields compared to the high levels of MY2023/24.
