Romania and its 19.03 million consumers offer increasingly viable market opportunities for U.S. food and agricultural products. In 2021, Romania imported just over $12 billion worth of food and agricultural products (a 17 percent increase over 2020), of which around 1.5 percent, or $182 million, was sourced from the United States.

Romania, a member of the European Union (EU), maintains a balanced view regarding agricultural biotechnology. Although no biotech crops are cultivated in Romania, farmers continue to view biotechnology as an instrument in managing the agronomic risks and sustaining their competitiveness.
