On September 13 & 14, the European Union Parliament adopted its negotiating positions on Deforestation-Free Supply Chains regulations and revisions to the Renewable Energy Directive. The two files will now enter trilogue negotiations, where the Council, Parliament, and Commission will work to reach a compromise text.

Turkey’s sugar beet production is forecast at 21.5 million metric tons (MMT) in MY 2022/23 and is expected to result in 3.05 MMT of sugar. The quotas for MY 2022/23 were announced on March 20, 2022 by a presidential decree as 2.68 MMT for sugar beets and 68.75 MT for starch-based sugar. For MY 2022/23, Post maintains wheat and barley planted area forecast, while raising yield forecast on the account of reports that grain harvest and storage operations took place in good conditions. Post forecast MY 2022/23 wheat at 3.3 million metric tons (MMT), and barley at 1.2 MMT.

Ukraine’s chicken meat production is expected to decline by over 8 percent in 2022. The industry is experiencing significant problems with inputs procurement, in-country, and export logistics, domestic consumer base decrease, and labor force shortages.

In June 2022, Egypt launched a trial phase of the Advanced Clearance Information system (ACI) on airfreight. The government is expected to fully apply the electronic ACI system in October 2022. On September 21, 2022, Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued administrative decree number 1895 for the year 2022 adopting a regionalization model to the county level for U.S. outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian influenza (HPAI). The decree lifted a previous ban on all non-heat treated poultry meat (fresh, chilled, frozen, and processed), poultry products and table eggs from 24 U.S. states. On Sept 13, 2022, the head of the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture’s Veterinary Services division confirmed Tunisia will accept sanitary certificates for US-origin bovine, caprine, and ovine embryos, as well as US-origin caprine and ovine semen. Effective immediately, the Tunisian market is open to these five products.
