Due to the poultry industry’s slow recovery and sluggish consumer demand for edible oils, no significant growth in oilseed and edible oil use is forecast for 2022/23. Likewise, soybean, canola, and palm oil imports in 2022/23 are forecast to remain similar to 2021/22 levels.

China: Oilseeds and Products Annual

Rising feed demand coupled with limited availability and higher prices for protein-rich substitutes is expected to increase China’s soybean imports to a record forecast 100 million metric tons (MMT) in Marketing Year (MY) 22/23.
On March 4, 2022, the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC) made 42 additions to the list of products subject to Decree 248. American exporters are encouraged to pay attention to the additions which include meat, seafood, and certain beverages.

Pakistan: Sugar Annual

Due to slight increases in area and sugarcane yields, sugar production in 2022/23 is forecast to reach 7.2 million metric tons (MMT), a marginal increase over the good 2021/22 crop. Sugar consumption for 2022/23 is forecast at 6.1 MMT, which would be a 3.3 percent increase, reflecting population growth and demand from the expanding food processing sector.
On March 2, 2022, the Supreme People's Court of China issued "Guiding Opinions on Further Strengthening the Criminal Trial Work Involving Seeds" (hereinafter referred to as the "Opinions"). The Opinions clarify the general requirements for strengthening seed-related criminal trials, the application of law to seed-related crimes, and improvement of relevant enforcement mechanisms.

China: Geographic Indications Five-Year Plan Issued

The People's Republic of China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) issued its first ever Five-Year Plan for geographical indications (GIs).
This report contains unofficial guidance issued by the Office of Agricultural Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China for U.S. exporters that experience difficulties with having their products receive customs clearance due to facility registration issues created by General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC) Decree 248.
