Wheat production in marketing year (MY) 2021-2022 is forecast at a record 20 million tons, and exports are projected at 13.5 million tons (including flour in its wheat equivalent), both unchanged from USDA’s official numbers.
Post lowers its MY 2021/22 projected planted area for soybeans to 17.0 million hectares. This reduction of 500,000 hectares will translate to total projected production of 49.7 million metric tons, 2.3 million metric tons below the USDA Official estimate.
Post estimates that the sugar cane crop will fall by 2 percent to 17.9 million MT in the 2021/22 MY, based on cane that was burnt and rejected by sugar mills during the civil unrest and protests in KwaZulu-Natal, frost damage in some growing areas in June 2021, and some growers diversifying to more profitable crops.
