Vietnam cotton imports in marketing year 2021/22 (MY21/22) decreased 9 percent year on year to roughly 1.4 million metric tons (MMT) with a 30-percent higher value at $3.5 billion, according to Vietnam Customs data.

As of October 2020, Vietnam has issued 45 Certificates of Food/Feed Approval for genetically engineered (GE) products for corn, soybeans, canola, sugar beets, alfalfa, and cotton.

Due to COVID-19, Vietnam’s cotton imports dropped 7 percent in marketing year (MY) 2019/2020, to 6.47 million bales [or 1.41 million metric tons (MMT)].
