Germany, the largest economy in the European Union, is a large and promising pet food market. Imports of pet food account for more than half of the total market. While the market is mature and somewhat saturated, it is steadily growing.

During its last plenary session in April 2019, the European Parliament has adopted the draft regulation to increase transparency and sustainability of risk assessment in the food chain.

Germany is by far the biggest market for food and beverages in the European Union.
