This report is an overview and update on regulations and standards for importing U.S. food and beverage products to Argentina. For marketing year (MY) 2023/24, Post estimates an increase in fresh lemon production. This upward revision is attributed to producers' expectations of favorable weather conditions. Post’s MY 2022/23 production estimate is revised up 12 percent due to less severe drought conditions than initially expected.

The Government of Argentina (GOA) approved five new genetically engineered (GE) events in 2023 (two soybean and three corn). Argentina and Brazil continue to be at the forefront of biotechnology and signed the Cooperation Agreement on Biosafety of Modern Biotechnology Products on October 20, 2022.

Post revises 2018/2019 soybean production down slightly to 56 million tons based on lower planting area.

For 2018/2019, apple and pear production is forecast to increase over last year, despite lower planted area, but remain below historical levels.

The Argentine government announced a plan to halve the number of Ministries which will bring the Ministry of Agroindustry under the Ministry of Production as a sub-secretariat.

Post forecasts 2019 chicken meat production to remain stable at 2.18 million metric tons.

For 2019, beef production is forecast to increase marginally to 3 million tons carcass weight equivalent.

For 2017/18, drought impacts continue to impact oilseed commodities.
