This report highlights the Brazilian biopesticides market and the current developments in the Brazilian legislation for biopesticides. The report focuses on the “on-farm” production of biopesticides, defined as the production of biopesticides at the farm level for non-commercial use. Government agencies and major stakeholders with a deep interest in the topic have listed several pros and cons relative to the matter.
The Brazilian economy increased by 4.3 percent after a domestic and global demand rebound in 2021. The gross domestic product reached US$1.6 trillion. However, rising inflation and the slow labor market recovery in 2022 have affected purchasing power and expectations of the post-pandemic future.
Post increased its corn production forecast for Marketing Year (MY) 2022/23 to 120 million metric tons (MMT) based on strong demand, increased prices in the domestic and international markets, and diminishing uncertainty over the availability of fertilizers. For MY 2021/22, Brazil’s corn planted area is set to reach new records.
On March 23, 2016, legislation was signed into law to increase Brazil’s biodiesel-use mandate from the current 7 percent, to 10 percent by 2019.
