The Turkish cotton crop for Marketing Year (MY) 2021/22 is forecast at 450,000 hectares and 825,000 metric tons (MT; 3.79 million bales). Cotton consumption is expected to be 1,850,000 MT (8.50 million bales) for the same MY.
Due to excellent conditions during harvest, which followed a good growing season, seed cotton collection has progressed well, and deliveries to ginners are far out-pacing last year.
China’s food regulatory regime continues to evolve. In 2017, China issued numerous new regulations and measures to reflect the requirements introduced under the 2015 Food Safety Law.
Sufficient water reservoirs and good 2018/19 cotton prices will contribute to maintaining a comparable cotton planted area in MY2019/20.
Bt. cotton will likely be the first commercially approved genetically engineered (GE) crop for cultivation in Kenya.
