FAS Mumbai (Post) forecasts marketing year (MY) 2021/2022 cotton production at 28 million 480 lb. bales on an area of 12.4 million hectares.

With the China Cotton Index (CC Index 3128B) price surging 58 percent from its August 2020 level to RMB 20,150 (or, approximately U.S. $3,100) per metric ton (MT) on October 8, 2021, the Chinese government (PRC) is taking steps to rein in prices.

Irrigation water limitations in the Guadalquivir basin have resulted in lower area planted to cotton for MY2021/22.

Despite continued water deficit in the South and some pest problems during vegetation in some regions, in general, this year’s weather conditions were favorable for growers.
