Oilseed planted area is forecast to surge in Marketing Year (MY) 2016/17.
Following a double digit decline in total oilseed production in MY2015/16 due to summer heat and drought, Bulgarian farmers are ready to expand planted areas under sunflower and rapeseed in MY2016/17.
Rapeseed remains the most profitable oilseed for Czech farmers. In MY 2015/16 they experienced another good crop of 1.26 million MT of rapeseed on area of 366,180 HA.
It is estimated that in MY 2016/2017 rapeseed planted area amounts to 940,000 hectares, a one percent decline in comparison to the previous year due to unusually dry weather during the planting season
Total European Union oilseeds area in MY 2016/17 is forecast to increase by about 1.6 percent to almost 12 million hectares.
