On Monday, June 24, 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of the Government of Japan (GOJ) opened a public comment period for its revision for domestic field trial requirements of genetically engineered (GE) crops.

Soybean production for MY 24/25 is forecast at 19.6 million metric tons (MMT) based on planted area of 9.95 million hectares (Mha). The relatively low and declining soybean meal (SBM) prices since the beginning of MY 23/24 could encourage more SBM use in feed production.

As of June 1, 2024, Turkiye’s Ministry of Trade has relaxed the ban on the export of bulk and barreled olive oil, allowing up to 50,000 tons of bulk and barreled olive oil to be exported until November 1, 2024. The Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture estimated olive oil production for MY 2014/15 at 320,000 MT, which is a record high.

The first tentative post-harvest data on 2015 oilseeds crops showed rapeseed production in line with AgSofia’s earlier forecast, however, the sunflower crop declined due to the summer heatwave.
