On October 7, 2024, Japan's Forestry Agency proposed the list of organizations which the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries would like to designate as certifiers of information under the revised Clean Wood Act.

Canada: Wood Pellets Annual

FAS/Canada forecasts Canada's wood pellet production to decline by six percent in 2023 as a result of closure of pellet mills, reductions in allowable cut, and a high activity wildfire season.
Japan has decided to fully enact the revised Clean Wood Act from April 1, 2025.
On May 8, 2023, the Forestry Agency revised the Clean Wood Act. On October 11, 2023, the Forestry Agency proposed what types of information can be considered as equivalent to legal harvest certification.

Canadian wood pellet production is forecast to remain stable for 2022 at 3.5 million metric tons. Canada's wood pellet exports are forecast to grow five percent on increased demand from Europe and Asia.

Japan opened the public comment for newly developed Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS) for wood pellet fuel. Comments are due to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries by December 9, 2021.
