In marketing year (MY) 2024/25, Turkiye’s wheat, barley, and corn production is forecast to contract year-over-year due to drier-than-normal weather conditions during the growing season.

Based on the final official harvest data, the Bulgarian corn crop fell to only 1.5 million metric tons (MMT) in marketing year (MY) 2024/25. This is the smallest corn crop since 2012, and was impacted by intense summer heat and drought followed by adverse rainy weather during the harvest.

In marketing year (MY) 2024/25, Turkiye’s wheat, barley, and corn production is forecast to contract year-over-year due to drier-than-normal weather conditions during the growing season.

Post’s marketing year (MY) 2024/25 production estimate for all grains is 13 percent lower than its MY2023/24 estimate. With MY2024/25 beginning stocks at minimum levels, Post’s export estimates are 26 percent lower than its estimates for the previous MY.

With Brazil continuing to produce record corn crops, Post forecasts corn production for MY 2023/24 at 131 MMT, up 1.6 percent from the current season. However, falling profit margins and ongoing infrastructure and logistics hurdles may impact the next harvest’s outcome.

The wheat planting area for MY2023/24 is estimated at 725,000 HA, some 17 percent higher than previous marketing year. Overall production is estimated to be 3.6 MMT, which represents a 12.5 increase compared to MY2022/23.

Based on the Government of Pakistan’s (GOP) first official assessment, the 2023/24 wheat production forecast is increased to a record 28.0 million tons.

The Government of Morocco has released its first wheat and barley production estimates for the 2023 crop, including 2.98 MMT of common wheat, 1.18 MMT of durum wheat, and 1.35 MMT of barley.

Good conditions at planting and during the early growth phase for wheat and barley production have prevailed for marketing year (MY) 2023/24. However, after a record setting winter crop in MY 2022/23, Australia is expected to produce a strong but more subdued grain crop in MY 2023/24.

According to information published by the United Nations Joint Coordination Centre, as of June 20, 2023, approximately one-quarter of all grain and oilseed volumes shipped under the Black Sea Grain Initiative (BSGI) were destined for the People’s Republic of China (PRC); making it the single largest recipient of food and feed commodities.
