Post forecasts MY 25/26 China corn production at 300 MMT, up 1.7 percent from MY 24/25, while corn imports are forecast at 8 MMT, lower than MY 23/24 levels due to China’s focus on grain self-sufficiency.

On October 28, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) published a revised “National Standard for Seed of Food Crops – Part 1: Cereals”, which will come into effect on October 1, 2025.

Feed demand in marketing year (MY) 2024/25 is expected to recover slightly, with a projected total volume of 286.5 million metric tons (MMT). Corn is expected to dominate feed composition due to low prices, replacing wheat and old stock rice.

Heavy rainfall in late summer led Post to increase Marketing Year (MY) 2023/24 corn production upwards by 4.2 percent. Post estimates corn feed and residual use at 223 Million Metric Ton (MMT) due to decreasing feed demand and low corn prices.

Post forecasts China's MY2023/24 grain feed and residual use to increase slightly and corn production also slightly higher due to a larger planted area and improved yields.

Post forecasts that, despite recent heavy rainfall in major producing provinces that has impacted quality, total wheat production in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) will be comparable in quantity to the previous year due to higher area planted and harvest completion in June.

Post forecasts little change in overall feed production in MY2023/24 but corn utilization in feed rations should rise while wheat and rice utilization should decline.

Corn production in MY2022/23 is revised up slightly based on National Bureau of Statistics data indicating a better harvest in the North China Plain which more than offset smaller yields in the northeast.

U.S. agricultural exports to China in fiscal year (FY) 2022 were $36.4 billion and surpassed the previous year’s record with China as the largest export market for the second consecutive year. Significantly higher agricultural prices and resilient demand helped drive exports above the previous year’s record despite lower volumes for most products.

Corn production for MY2022/23 is forecast at 270 MMT, 4 MMT lower than USDA’s official forecast and 2.5 MMT lower than MY2021/22 due to lower planting area and yield losses caused by excessive rains in the northeast.
