Marketing year (MY) 23/24 cotton production is lowered to 5.9 million metric tons (MMT) on reduced planted area and raised for MY 22/23 to 6.68 MMT on higher planted area and reported volumes of classified Xinjiang cotton.

As initially forecasted in April 2015, C3+2 countries produced 3.5 million bales (1.8 million tons) of seed cotton in MY2014/15 (Aug/July).
MY15/16 cotton production is forecast down to 5.5 million tons. This forecast is based on 19 percent fall in planted area in response to the lower government’s price support for cotton planting.
