Türkiye’s cotton production in marketing year (MY) 2023/24 is forecast to decrease to 755,000 metric tons (MT; 3.5 million bales), since farmers will choose to plant less cotton in response to decreasing cotton prices and rising input costs.
Post increased the forecast for 2023/24 cotton area planted to 1.67 million hectares (ha), an increase of just under one percent from the 1.66 million ha cotton area estimate for 2022/23.
FAS Mumbai forecasts marketing year (MY) 2023/24 India cotton production at 26 million 480 lb. bales on 12.7 million hectares area planted, unchanged from the previous report.
The 2023/24 harvested area estimate is increased slightly based on information collected during recent field travel.
Mali, Burkina Faso, and Senegal area harvested for marketing year (MY) 2023/24 is forecast to remain the same as the previous year at 1.23 million hectares (MHA) based on good farm gate prices, governments’ input subsidies, and farmers’ debt cancellation by the Malian and Senegalese governments.

Despite continued water deficit in the South and some pest problems during vegetation in some regions, in general, this year’s weather conditions were favorable for growers.
