European Union: EU Wood Pellet Annual

In 2021, EU wood pellet consumption hit a new record of 23.1 million metric tons (MMT) mainly due to increased residential use in Germany and co-firing of wood pellets with coal in the Netherlands. In 2022, EU demand is expected to further grow to 24.3 MMT, based on expansion of the residential markets, mainly in Germany and France, boosted by support programs for the installation of biomass boilers and the high price of fossil fuels.
On June 22, 2022, the European Commission adopted its proposal for a new Regulation on the sustainable use of Plant Protection Products (SUR). The rules encourage reducing pesticides through integrated pest management and alternatives to chemical pesticides.

On September 15, 2013, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock released the Animal Feed Rules 2013 to ensure the quality and standard of animal feed and its production, import, export, preserving, marketing, and use. The Rules cover licensing conditions and procedures, approving the quality of feed and its ingredients, including conventional food, maintaining feed quality with required energy, protein, nutrition, and standards for different types of animals, varied by age.

Taiwan: Retail Foods

Retail food outlets in Taiwan are comprised of convenience stores, supermarkets, and hypermarkets, which generated $32.4 billion worth of sales in 2021, a 2.2 percent growth from 2020. The United States continues to be the leading supplier of consumer-oriented food and agricultural products to Taiwan with popular products such as beef and fresh fruit taking over 30 percent of total market share.
