India: US Exporters of Nutraceutical and Certain Other Categories of Products Face Trade Challenges at the Indian Ports

Effective September 1, 2024, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) commenced its implementation for the mandatory registration of foreign food manufacturing facilities (FFMF) who import certain categories of foods such as milk and milk products; meat and meat products including poultry, fish and their products, egg powder, infant food; and nutraceuticals to India. The non-registered FFMF exporting to India under these specified categories will be subject to mandatory registration. Past the implementation date of September 1, 2024, all non-registered FFMF whose products arrive at the Indian Port will be put on hold until they are registered with FSSAI.
