Assuming a normal 2016 monsoon (June-Sept), India’s total oilseed production in marketing year (MY) 2016/17 (Oct-Sept) will reach 35.4 million metric tons (MMT), a ten-percent over last year. Oilmeal and edible (vegetable) oil production should reach levels of 15.4 MMT and 6.8 MMT, respectively. Edible oil imports will rise modestly to 15.5 MMT, with9.8 MMT of palm oil and soft oils making up the balance. Oilmeal exports will be limited to 2.6 MMT.
