India: India - Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Outbreaks in Maharashtra State

On February 25, 2022, the Indian government reported outbreaks of the highly pathogenic influenza virus (HPAI) of the serotype H5N1 to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). The outbreaks were reported on poultry farms in the Vehloli village of Shahapur tehsil in the Thane district and in the Agashi/Vatar areas of Vasai Taluka in Palghar district of the Indian state of Maharashtra. The Indian government has issued an advisory to the affected state (i.e., Maharashtra) to contain the outbreak.
