Hong Kong’s biotech situation has not changed over the past year. Hong Kong has no GE animal production with crop production limited to GE papayas for self-consumption. Hong Kong imports GE products and encourages voluntary, not mandatory, labeling of genetically engineered (GE) products according to 2006 guidelines. GE development in Hong Kong is limited to research with all field trials conducted in conjunction with universities in mainland China.
