Guatemala: FAIRS Country Report Annual

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)   |   GT2024-0006
Guatemala adopted the Central American Regional Technical Regulation RTCA 67.01.31:20, which updates the food product registration process. The regulation entered into effect on August 5, 2024, superseding previous regulation RTCA 67.031:07. The new rule makes it mandatory the registration of some semi-processed or processed food used as ingredients; a list of products impacted is under development. Modifications to an existing regulation will not require a new registration during the five-year period of the existing registry. The sanitary extension was eliminated and substituted by the “authorized importer” option.
