Ghana’s National Biosafety Authority (NBA) on Friday September 15, 2023, approved the Bt cowpea event 245F (Cry2Ab) for environmental release. The NBA also approved the application for controlled field trials (CFTs) of Bruchid resistant cowpea on the same date. Ghana joins the league of African countries including Kenya, Malawi, and Nigeria, with validated guidelines for genome editing. Stakeholders have validated the NBA’s guidelines on stacked trait events.
