On June 16, 2018, the People’s Republic of China’s Ministry of Finance (MOF), State Council Tariff Commission (SCTC) announced a revised list of U.S. products subject to an additional 25- percent tariff in response to the U.S. 301 Investigation. The announcement is broken down into two schedules. Schedule I includes 545 total products, valued at approximately $34 billion, which will enter into force on July 6, 2018, the same day the U.S. tariffs related to the 301 Investigation are enacted. 517 products on the list are food and agriculture-related products. Some of these same products are also subject to tariffs in China’s response to the 232 Investigation. Post understands that these two additional sets of tariffs will be calculated in aggregate. U.S. exporters of these commodities should be aware that the new tariffs are effective July 6, and should check with local importers to verify changes in tariff treatment.
