On January 7, 2026, France issued a decree prohibiting the import of grains, soybeans, fruits, and vegetables which have been treated with any of five pesticides. This decree has the potential to negatively impact the export to France of $130 million of U.S. soybeans, fruits, and vegetables, as four of the five pesticides targeted by France can be legally used in the United States.

China: Baking Ingredients Market Update 2025

China is the world’s second largest bakery market, second only to the United States. Its baked food retail market was estimated between $50 billion to $83 billion in 2025. Continued growth is expected as China’s per-capita baked food consumption remains relatively low in comparison to mature markets like the United States and Japan.

Turkey: Turkiye Publishes its 2026 Tariff Schedule

On December 31st last year, the Turkish Ministry of Trade published its 2026 tariff schedule for all commodities including agricultural products. Depending on the prevailing market conditions, the Trade Ministry may at any time during the year decide to adjust tariff rates for selected agricultural product imports.
Effective February 14, 2025, Hong Kong transitioned from a “systems-based” to an “establishment-based” registration system for foreign meat and poultry exporters. U.S. establishments that slaughter, process, store or export raw meat and/or raw poultry products, must be approved by Hong Kong and added to the Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) Hong Kong Eligible Establishment List to export to Hong Kong.
