On June 20, 2022, Canada announced final regulations banning the following single-use plastic manufactured items: checkout bags, cutlery, certain foodservice ware, ring carriers, stir sticks, and most straws.
On June 15, Kazakhstan extended wheat and wheat flour export restrictions until September 30. The restrictions were originally approved on April 14 under the Ministry of Agriculture's decree “Regarding export of certain goods from the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan” and set to expire on June 15, 2022.

Opportunities for U.S. Agriculture in Bangladesh

Economic conditions in Bangladesh have created significant opportunities for U.S. agricultural exports, particularly consumer-oriented commodities including tree nuts, condiments and sauces, fruit juice and non-alcoholic beverages, snacks, and baking ingredients. Bangladesh has maintained one of the fastest growing economies in the world for the past decade. The increasing population and rising percentage of middle- and high-income households create a growing potential market for U.S. agricultural products.
The following changes have been made to the 2022 FAIRS report: 1) Section II – Labeling. Effective December 1, 2023, food containing hydrogenated oils must be labeled. 2) Section III – Packaging. Glass and plastic bottles will be subject to additional levies. 3) Section VI – Other Requirements, Regulations, and Registration Measures.
On May 17, 2022, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued Notification F. No. STD/SP-20/T (Recycled Plastics-N) notifying amendments to the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations (2018). The notification was published in the Gazette of India – Extraordinary (official gazette) on May 18, 2022, and uploaded to the FSSAI website on May 24, 2022.
On May 9, 2022, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) published on its website Notification No. F. No. Stds/SP-05/A-1. Y(01) Food Safety and Standards (Ayurveda Aahara) Regulations (2022). The notification had previously been published in the Gazette of India (official gazette) on May 6, 2022.

Quarterly Agricultural Export Forecast

FAS and the Economic Research Service jointly publish the quarterly Outlook for U.S. Agricultural Trade. The agricultural export forecast is updated February, May, August, and November.
On May 24, 2022, India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry/Directorate General of Foreign Trade issued Public Notice No. 10/2015-20 (May 24, 2022) (see, Appendix I). The public notice specifies that India is allocating a tariff-rate quota (TRQ) of 2 million metric tons (MMT) for crude soybean oil and a similar TRQ of 2 MMT for crude sunflower oil in India fiscal year (IFY) 2022/23 and in IFY 2023/24. The Indian government’s measure is meant to address the high domestic prices of edible oils, and to check rising food inflation.
