Indonesia: Cotton and Products Update

Indonesian cotton imports in 2021/22 increased by 11.7 percent to 2.57 million bales due to increased economic activity following relaxed COVID-19 restrictions. However, due to the global economic slowdown leading to lower demand for Indonesian textiles and products, cotton imports in 2022/23 are forecast to slightly decline to 2.50 million bales.
On January 11, 2023, India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry/Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued Public Notice No. 50/2015-20. The notice specifies that India amended its previous tariff-rate quota of 2 million metric tons for crude soybean oil, previously allowable at a zero percent duty through Indian fiscal years (IFY) 2022/23 and 2023/24 (April 1-March 31).

The updated list contains 1,478 standards covering food products, additives, quality specifications, testing methods, and production practices. Thailand: Rice Price - Weekly

Rice export prices rose 2-5 percent higher due to exporters’ concerns about the strengthening of the Thai baht.
On September 20, 2022, the China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA), the National Health Commission (NHC), and the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) jointly published Announcement No. 594 containing the National Food Safety Standard of Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for 41 Veterinary Drugs in Foods (GB 31650.1-2022) and 21 standards of methods for determination of veterinary drug residues.
On August 23, 2022, the Sri Lankan government temporary suspended the import of 26 agricultural products. The Imports and Exports (Control) Regulations No. 13 (2022) is a quantitative import restrictive measure.
