In Japan Fiscal Year 2022, Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) awarded 677,714 metric tons of rice through the Minimum Access import system.

On March 20, Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW) and Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) added a waxy corn product to their lists of genome edited products not subject to regulations for genetically engineered food, feed, and biodiversity.

The Philippines maintains a Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) for corn (H.S. 1005). On July 13, 2022, the Government of Vietnam (GVN) issued Decree 46/2022 amending Decree 13/2020 Guiding the Law on Animal Husbandry, which repeals Article 18.3.c of Decree 13/2020. With this amendment, the GVN no longer requires a Certificate Free Sale (CFS) for imported feed ingredients, including traditional feeds such as corn, soybean meal, DDGS, and single feed ingredients like vitamins, amino acids, and minerals, as part of the registration process for import inspection.

On May 23, 2022, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Brazil held High-Level Committee talks. According to the press release issued by the PRC’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) on May 24, the talks included several agricultural-related outcomes including, improved and new sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) market access protocols for corn and hulled peanuts along with plans for new SPS protocols on soy protein concentrate, soybean meal, and orange fiber pellets that may be signed later.

On November 16, 2021, China Animal Agricultural Association (CAAA) proposed group standards for Alfalfa Meal Quality Classification and Timothy Hay Quality Grade. The standards were published for public feedback and will take effect after revision based on feedback received.

On December 1, 2021, Taiwan completed the last tender for approximately 12,000 MT of U.S. long grain brown rice, thus concluding tenders for 2021 country specific quota (CSQ) for U.S. rice.
