China: East China Led US Consumer Ag Product Imports in 2024

  |   Attaché Report (GAIN)   |   CH2025-0058
The East China region, comprising Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces, is a key driver of economic growth in the country accounting for 25 percent of China's economy in 2024. High levels of urbanization and infrastructure make the region a focal point for imported agricultural products. In 2024, East China accounted for 29 percent of all U.S. agricultural imports including over half of all consumer-oriented products. The region accounted for the majority of U.S. beef, pork, tree nuts, processed fruit and vegetables, wine, beer, spirits, non-alcoholic beverages, pet food, and other processed products imported into the country. As a result, East China hosts several trade shows for imported food and beverage products.
