AG ONLY- Only available in the FAS Commodity Groups
YES - The report output includes only those harmonized tariff schedule commodities that the U.S. Department of Agriculture designates as "agricultural" in nature. The Department of Commerce's Bureau of the Census has recently adopted USDA's classification system for agricultural products, so all DOC reports that cover agriculture should match USDA's data.
NO - The report output includes selected "non-agricultural" harmonized tariff schedule commodities that are tracked by USDA.
*Note USDA's trade databases include only selected "non-agricultural" harmonized tariff schedule commodities. The non-agricultural commodities which have been included are those which are closely associated with agricultural commodities and those which the Department is interested in tracking. They typically fall into two groups: manufactured products derived from plants or animals like yarns, fabrics, textiles, leather, articles of apparel, cigarettes and cigars, spirits; or products used in the farm production process like agricultural chemicals, fertilizers, and farm machinery. Fishery products are included as non-agricultural products because of their food value and the fact that FAS collaborates with the seafood industry to promote exports. Solid wood products are also included as a non-agricultural product because FAS collaborates with U.S. industry to promote exports of these products as well.
Border
By turning Border "ON" (the default is off) the rows and columns of the report will be displayed with a border similar to a spreadsheet.
ON - Borders will be displayed.
OFF - Borders will NOT be displayed.
COMMODITY SELECTION
To determine the commodity selection, users should view the TABS at the top level of the selection screen. Notice that tabs are color coded. For instance, the default view when logging on to the system shows the tab EXPORTS highlighted in yellow, the tab immediately below shows the tab BICO highlighted in yellow. The highlighting feature shows the viewer that the default selection would be a selection of EXPORTS using standard FAS (BICO) Bulk, Intermediate and Consumer-Oriented groupings of Harmonized Tariff Schedule B Export codes. From this default screen the user may click on other tabs to select other Commodity Group selections, keeping in mind that the TOP LEVEL tabs would determine the selection of: EXPORTS, IMPORTS, or RE-EXPORTS and the next level tabs would determine predefined groupings, such as BICO, FAS, ERS, HS 2,4,6 or 10-digit.
COUNTRY SELECTION
Country codes listed in the very top of the COUNTRIES selection box that begin with an asterisk * alert the user that these country descriptors are REGIONS that are built and maintained as standard regions in FAS. Users may determine the members of each region by clicking on the blue COUNTRY GROUP help bar at the top of the selection screen. Contents of each region are clearly listed by using this help bar function.
Countries used in the U.S. Trade system may be identified by an asterisk in parenthesis (*). This marking highlights country codes that have sub-country members, for example: (*) Belgium-Luxembourg identified with an asterisk would clearly show that this country identified by the Schedule C four digit code 4230 consists of a sub-country Belgium 4231 and sub-country Luxembourg 4239. Other countries identified by an asterisk (*) may also alert the user that over time, historically Schedule C codes have been changed for this country.
DATE SELECTION
The date selection list box includes statistical data reported by the Census Bureau beginning with 1989 and ending with the most recently added data. Statistical data is based on monthly records.
The date range that will appear on the report is set using two factors; the selected format (See Format or below) and the ending year of the report. The ending year of the report is set using the Start and End date options. The Start date is the beginning year and month of the ending year of the report. The End date is the ending year and month of ending year of the report. This set-up (although a little confusing) allows for the selection of any Calendar, Fiscal, or Marketing year, along with, the ability to select partial years including quarters or seasons. For example, to select a five year calendar year report that contains the years 1995-1999, select the "Five Year" format and change the Start year to 1999 and the Start month to "01" (January). To select the first quarter for this report simply change the ending month to "03" (March).

SEARCH FOR COMMODITIES
This custom feature allows the user to perform an online search for HTS commodities by either, alpha description [TEXT] or commodity code [CODE]. The search will be done based on the highlighted commodity selection (BICO, FAS, FATUS, HS 2-4-6-10) and the statistical type (Export or Import).
Using the SEARCH FOR COMMODITIES option choose a search based on TEXT or CODE (click on the button marked TEXT or CODE). Next key in either an alpha description on the selection line or a numerical code (Three(3) character minimum). Now click on the FIND button. The first occurrence of your search criteria will then appear in the Commodity selection box. Similar searches may be done at the HTS level. For instance, select the Exports tab and the Schedule B 10-digit tab. Searching may be done based on a 10 digit code, key in the code on the search selection line, click on Code.
When searching for commodities using either BICO or FAS groupings all the contents of the commodity group which includes the searched for commodity are displayed. This provides for a context sensitive search capability. For example, when searching is for HAY using the BICO commodity groupings all the commodities within FEEDS and FODDERS are displayed. It a more exact search is required use the HS 2-4-6-10 commodities.
Select From Chapters: [00-99] box directly under the Commodity selection box.
Due to the large number of commodities included under HS-6 and HS-10 digit codes the Internet page will only display 10 chapters at a time (the default is 01 - 09). To select commodities from other chapters use the Select From Chapter option to select the range of chapters in which the desired commodity resides. If you do not know what range of chapters to select use the SEARCH FOR COMMODITIES feature (see above).
STATISTICS
Statistics may be selected in either Value (U.S. Dollars), Quantity (metric unit of measure),
Unit Value for FATUS and HS-10 only or CIF Value for imports only.
When groups of commodities are used in a report reflecting quantity statistics, the statistics on mixed unit line items will reflect the unit of measure of the greatest number of like units. For example, if a group of commodities contains statistics on 10 commodities, within these ten items, eight items are reported in LITERS, one item is reported in NUMBERS and one item is reported in METRIC TONS. The line item quantity statistics will show a subtotal of all statistics reported in LITERS. The system defaults to the greatest number of like units to calculate the quantity total for that line item of grouped commodities.
WARNING: users should use cautious interpretation on QUANTITY reports using mixed units of measure. Commodity groups on a value report will reflect a total of all statistics for each commodity in the group in DOLLARS, whereas a QUANTITY line item will show statistics on the greatest number of like units of measure for grouped commodities.
Please Note: The CIF Value is not revised during the 13th month database loads. (See Tips for more information)

SPECIAL NOTES
When a report request has been submitted and the return output is labeled: No Data Found, use cautious interpretation. Keep in mind that the Bureau of the Census statistics are reported on HS-10 digit commodity code levels. Each year Census or ITC may issue new replacement commodity codes at the HS-10 digit level for Exports (Schedule B) or Imports (Harmonized Tariff Schedules of the United States Annotated). For instance, a code may be valid in 1989 but changed in 1994 to a new code. If the user requests data with the date range 1995-1999 and uses a commodity code which is valid 1989 - 1994 then the return report output will reflect No Data Found. Therefore users are urged to familiarize themselves with the official HTSUSA (Imports) and Schedule B (Exports) issued for years requested to ensure that the correct codes are valid for the years requested.
