Canadian Flue-Cured Auction Update: Through the 74th sale day of the 2002/2003 Canadian flue-cured tobacco marketing season, the Ontario Flue-Cured Tobacco Growers’ Marketing Board reports that 33,019 metric tons of flue-cured tobacco have been sold. This is a 10-percent decrease in sales compared to the same period last year. Prices in Canadian currency are averaging $4.00 (U.S.$2.60) per kilogram, up 2.3 percent from a year ago. So far this year, sales of “A” graded leaves account for 73 percent of purchases, up one percent from the same period last year.

U.S. Tobacco Industry To Buy 184.85 Million Pounds of 2003 Burley Crop: USDA announced that U.S. cigarette manufactures plan to purchase 184.85 million pounds (farm sales weight) of burley tobacco. In 2002, manufacturers’ intended purchases totaled 227.4 million pounds. PR1416.03
2002/2003 U.S. Burley Auction Update: Through the seventh week of the burley tobacco auction season total gross sales (auction and contract sales combined) reached 274.2 million pounds, averaging $1.97 per pound. Around 92 percent of the estimated crop production has been sold. AMS.MNCS/Index.htm
