Republic of Azerbaijan: Tobacco and cigarette production is expected to rebound in 2001 because of foreign investment and an improved Russian economy. European companies invested $50 million into refurbishing an antiquated tobacco industry. AJ1001

USDA Announces 2001 Crop Flue-Cured Tobacco Grade Loan Rates: The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced grade loan rates for the 2001 crop of flue-cured tobacco, based on the price support level of $1.66 per pound. The 2001 crop grade loan rates range from $1.24 to $1.92 per pound. FSA PR#1484
USDA Announces 2001 Acreage Allotments and Price Support for Certain Kinds of Tobacco: The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced acreage allotments for eight kinds of tobacco and the Commodity Credit Corporation price support levels for five kinds of tobacco for the 2001 marketing year. Preliminary Burley Tobacco Poundage Marketing Quota Referendum Results: Results from a mail referendum held February 12-16 indicate burley tobacco growers voted to continue the marketing quota for their crops for 2001, 2002, and 2003 marketing years. FSA PR#1456.01
